YUFE has collaborated with Roots & Shoots Malaysia in launching our first Virtual Sustainability-Related Mentorship Programme, aimed at:

Connecting aspiring youths with industry professionals, supporting them in their journey.

Enriching youths who seek guidance on how to navigate their career path within sustainability-related fields.

Empowering youths to enact change in the environmental industry and make lasting contributions.

Highlighting the intersection of sustainability with major career fields like finance, law, policy, technology, etc.

Shaping future leaders and environmental advocates.

We hope to increase exposure and access to fields that intersect with and have the power to impact the environment. This includes environmental law, policy or research, sustainable finance, renewable energy, technological innovations and more!


TO MENTORS

Through this programme, you will:
Impact the journey of a young individual - whose shoes you may have been in before - to better realise their aspirations. Form mutually enriching connections, where you can benefit from an expanded ability to guide others, and meet youths from diverse backgrounds.Give back to society by helping shape Malaysia’s future leaders and environmental advocates.Have a sense of fulfilment and a potentially lifelong friendship!
Time Commitment:
Around a total of 6.5 hours for one mentee within a 4-month span (precise duration is flexible; discussed between Mentor & Mentee). Mentors are welcome to take on more mentees if they wish!

TO MENTEES

Through this programme, you will:
Gain access to practical insights, knowledge, and advice, directly from experts within your chosen industry.Navigate and plan your career path with the guidance of experienced and accomplished individuals who may have once been in your shoes.Expand your professional and personal network by connecting with like-minded individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds.
Commitment Required:
Commit to around a total of 6.5 hours within a 4-month span (the precise duration is flexible; discussed between Mentor & Mentee). Take initiative during meetings and be punctual.Maintain confidentiality.


United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

YUFE hopes to contribute to placing Malaysia within the global environmental sphere, and collectively advance Malaysia's progress towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Through this mentorship programme, we aim to fulfil 6 SDG’s:

SDG 4: Quality Education by connecting youths to experienced industry experts and providing life-long learning opportunities for all.

SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth by supporting youth career development, employment productivity and sustainable economic growth.

SDG 10: Reduce Inequalities by offering free learning opportunities, accessible to all regardless of socio-economic background.

SDG 13: Climate Action by endowing youths with specialised skills & knowledge to combat climate change and its impacts.

SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions by creating a community appreciative of the value of sustainable development, accountability and inclusiveness at all levels.

SDG 17: Partnership for the Goals by improving and reinforcing the means of executing this program through local/global partnership for sustainable development.


FAQ

1. Is there a mentee-selection process?
Yes. Due to limited slots, only a few mentees will be selected to join this programme. To stand out, mentees should demonstrate a clear track record of potential and passion for environmental issues as a career.

2. Will this be conducted virtually or can it be in person? Or both?
Virtual. Choice of e-platform to be decided between Mentor and Mentee, e.g. phone call, WhatsApp, Skype, Zoom, Google Meet, etc.

3. Is the mentorship programme free?
Yes, mentors will be volunteering their time.

4. Can we have more sessions?
Yes, it is up to the Mentor and Mentee to organise more sessions if they wish.

5. How will the Mentee-Mentor-Matching process work?
We will match mentees based on Mentee's professional goals (such as industry of preference), as well as personality type.

6. Will there be a certificate?
Yes, a Certificate of Participation will be issued via email to mentees.

7. What is the programme structure like?
YUFE has prepared 4 modules for 4 sessions within a 4-month window.

Modules are as listed:
1: Self Awareness
2: Career Guidance
3: Planning Ahead - Career Development
4: Nurturing Passion & Consistent Impact

Each module includes several activities, tasks and possible questions aimed at providing a general framework to help guide each session.

The full structure will be available to Mentors and Mentees.
